Flesworthy Family Fun: Apples/Pumpkins

Sunday, October 11, 2009

On Saturday we made our annual trek to the pumpkin patch. This year we went to a farm that also contained an apple orchard, thereby doubling our fun.

Henry and Eleanor were extremely excited to pick fruit, both “YELLOW APPLES!” (golden delicious) and “RED APPLES!” (red delicious). They wanted to grab every apple in sight; it took a while to make them understand we wanted just the apples on the trees, not the ground. We strolled up and down a few rows of trees, and filled two bags to take home with us. (They’re delicious, by the way. Nothing beats a fresh apple you just picked from the tree. Especially if it’s dunked in caramel dip.)

We enjoyed a hayride and then headed off to the pumpkin patch. Henry and Eleanor kept us entertained, proclaiming each pumpkin, “too big!” and then demanding to go to the next row. We finally got them to select just-their-size pumpkins, and I picked a big one to grace our front porch.

We ended the day with some playtime in the kids play area and a walk over to the store for some apple cider for Andy and popcorn for the ride home. It’s hard to believe this was Henry and Eleanor’s third pumpkin excursion—it’s nice to have developed a fall family tradition.
