Flesworthy Family Fun: Strawberry Festival

Last Thursday was the annual Strawberry Festival downtown on the Circle, sponsored by a local church to raise money for area charities. We still had a pound or two of strawberries in the fridge from our recent picking excursion, but I decided that we would head downtown, walk several blocks in the humidity, and wait in line with hundreds of people to pay $20 for strawberries because we were going to MAKE! HAPPY! MEMORIES! RIGHT, KIDS? FUN TIMES!

And it was fun times, except for the part where Henry and Eleanor wouldn’t eat any strawberries. Here’s a quick recap of our lunch on the Circle:


Despite the sudden berry disinterest, we had a great time. It was Henry and Eleanor’s very first time on the Circle, and they enjoyed seeing the crowds and balloons and brass band that was playing right next to where we perched on the monument steps. They even had their first few seconds of fame; one of the local NBC weathermen was sitting next to us, and the kids got “interviewed” during one of his live segments. We dug in to our containers piled high with shortcake, berries, whipped cream, and ice cream. Henry and Eleanor ate a bite or two and then decided it was more fun to play with their spoons, leaving a nice big second helping for Andy and me. Afterwards, we oohed and aahed over the memorial, watched the water in the fountains, and left to drop Daddy back off at work and head home.
