Flesworthy Family Fun: Now With More Fish!

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Henry and Eleanor have been enamored of fish lately—squealing at the fish pond at the Children’s Museum, and lingering over the fish pages of their animal picture books. So Andy and I decided to head out for a fun afternoon at the zoo. You might think that going to the zoo when it’s cold and there’s still like a foot of snow on the ground was a silly idea, but trust me, it wasn’t. We practically had the place to ourselves, giving Henry and Eleanor plenty of room to run around.

The minute Andy set Eleanor’s feet on the ground in the Oceans exhibit, she made a running beeline over to the aquarium, with Henry soon on her heels. All of the aquatic creatures were a big hit—“more fish!” Henry and Eleanor would say as they darted from tank to tank. Andy and I petted sharks, then we headed over to the dolphin exhibit, where Henry and Eleanor lost all interest in the dolphins once they realized that they could yell and it would echo loudly.

On the way home we stopped at a indoor playground/inflatable bounce-y thing/recreation place that I had wanted to try out before the babies turned two and we had to pay admission. Henry and Eleanor weren’t too sure of the bouncy-things at first (what are those things called? you know what I’m talking about, right?) but soon got the hang of them and were bouncing and going down the slide. Eleanor’s love of slides rivals her love of books. If there were a way to for her to somehow be sliding while simultaneously being read to, then she would be in toddler heaven.

It’s the weekend, you don’t want to have to read lots of words, do you? Instead, here’s a video of our fun afternoon:
