Flesworthy Family Fun: Apple Orchard

Sunday, September 28, 2008

If Henry and Eleanor were an SAT question, the answer would be "Airports are to Henry as apple orchards are to Eleanor."

Judging by their enthusiastic reaction to the apple tree in our yard, we thought an orchard trip would be a fun activity when Grandma came to visit this weekend. We thought correctly—both babies had a great time. Eleanor especially enjoyed it, although you can't tell in most of our photos because her face is distorted saying "a-ma!" over and over (Eleanor-speak for "apple").

A fun ride on a wagon hitched to a tractor deposited us in the middle of the orchard. The trees were short enough that Henry and Eleanor could "help" us pick apples. There were row after row after row of them, and it was fun to walk up and down and pick the different varieties. The babies enjoyed placing the apples in our shopping bag, although they sometimes tried to sneak in ones they had plucked from the ground.

How do you like them apples?

I'm all out of apple sayings, sorry. Feel free to make up your own—about the Garden of Eden perhaps, or maybe Snow White?

Henry and Eleanor are getting old enough for us to start planning fun activities for them. I was so happy my mom could join us on our sunny fall day field trip. I can't wait to do things like this every year and start some FlesWorthy family traditions. Hopefully when Henry and Eleanor are older they'll look back fondly on days like this. I know I will.
