Flesworthy Family Fun: Fourth Festivities

Monday, July 6, 2009

We spent the Fourth of July weekend at Andy’s brother’s house, the third year we’ve made the trip for an action-packed holiday. My sister-in-law Cindy’s family comes to celebrate, too (side note: not only did I marry into a great family, I lucked out that my sister-in-law married into the same clan and brought along her equally-awesome family), and this year we were also joined by Andy’s sister and her family. For those of you counting along, that makes twenty-two of us that gathered for the festivities.

Andy’s family is scattered about the country, so this holiday was made extra special by the fact that it was the first time all the cousins have been together since Henry and Eleanor were born. There are ten years between the twins and the next-oldest grandkid, so needless to say Henry and Eleanor were doted on and had a blast with all the “big kids.”

We packed a lot into two days. Fishing, video games, golf cart rides, bocce, margaritas, chasing chickens, sunset strolls, seven-mile bike rides, pitting (and pitting and pitting) cherries for some homemade pie, ogling iPhones, lounging by the fish pond, root beer straight from the keg, examining pine cones, and, of course, fireworks.

We’re already counting the days until next year’s celebration.
